The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has started the second phase of its security sensitivity visits (SSV), which are face-to-face meetings between the agency or state investigators and top carrier officials to assess security vulnerabilities and countermeasures that can lead to improved security.

FMCSA inspectors will be using a security contact review form to determine a carrier’s compliance with the security plan and training requirements. The agency said the form should provide carriers with insight into the type of issues that could result in an enforcement action.

Last year, the agency conducted more than 36,000 SSVs with motor carriers that transport hazardous materials.
