Alternative-fuel systems manufacturer IMPCO Technologies of Cerritos, CA, has received patents in Mexico for what it calls its next-generation tamper-resistant fuel-metering product for transportation and industrial applications.

IMPCO designs and builds alternative-fuel systems technology and components for internal-combustion engines used in transportation and power-generation equipment. IMPCO said its new patents would help it expand its efforts to sell alternative-fueled vehicles in Mexico.

Mexico converted over 115,000 vehicles to run on natural gas in 2001. IMPCO said it is investing in product and technology at a rate that allows Mexican government public policy objectives to be achieved with confidence.

IMPCO added that the Mexican state of Jalisco approved the use of a specialized IMPCO alternative-fuel system on new state vehicles last September. The contract, worth $4.4 million, involves 3,500 vehicles that will run on liquefied natural gas (LPG).
