Transportation Safety Technologies (TST) is developing a product that will give drivers 360-degree warning coverage around a vehicle when used with the company's Eagle Eye Obstacle Detection System, which warns drivers of objects within 10 feet of the sides and rear of their vehicle.
Indianapolis-based TST projects delivery to the market of the front-end radar system during 2003. It will use 76.5 GHz forward-looking radar and software that collects following-distance data, which will enable a driver to better manage the distance between his rig and obstacles on the road.
“This is a major step in the natural evolution of collision warning and obstacle detection systems," TST president Michael P. Coyle said. "That’s great news for trucking companies trying to reduce accident costs and insurance rates. It’s also great news for the driving public as it helps to save lives.”
