Nevada-based Black Rock Systems, LLC along with partner Yanmar America Corp. recently unveiled an updated model of their auxiliary power unit (APU), first introduced earlier this year at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

According to Steve Rovarino, vp-- sales & marketing for Black Rock, the oil change interval for the new APU has been extended to 1,000 hours and the Yanmar engine warranty has been increased to three years/4,000 hours.

The frame-mounted, 455- to 510-lb. APU is designed to deliver 26,000 BTU/hr of cooling/ heating without idling the truck’s engine. Customers have a choice of generator size and engines. A two- or three-cylinder diesel engine is available to provide the power to operate the air conditioning compressor and generator.

“The Blackrock APU isn’t a one-size fits all, system,” noted Rovarino. “Each unit can be customized to fit the needs of the driver and his or her route. In addition, nearly all the components are commonly available and nearly all can be replaced in less than an hour with standard tools.

“The Blackrock APU using the Yanmar engine is also EPA Tier II Emissions Compliant,” he added. “It also meets the U. S. National Park Service standard for RV generator noise. There is full instrumentation with the system as well, including low oil pressure, high coolant temperature, engine over/under speed, overload, coolant temperature, alternator failure to charge and generator and belt failure.”
