Satellite-ready radios will be available in select Peterbilt trucks beginning in the fourth quarter of this year, according to XM Satellite Radio. The company said Peterbilt has strategically partnered with Delphi Automotive Systems to provide Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service through its exclusive ConcertClass audio system, which is available on Model 387 and 379 trucks.
Dan Murphy, XM’s vp of retail marketing and distribution, said the trucking industry is an ideal market for using satellite-based radio systems. It will allow drivers to tune into their favorite radio stations no matter where they located across the U.S., he said.
“With the many hours truckers spend behind the wheel, they form a close bond with particular programs and music formats,” Murphy said. “XM Satellite Radio will provide them with their favorites whenever and wherever they want them, without having to search the dial.”
XM said it is aiming to create and package up to 100 channels of digital-quality sound and provide coast-to-coast coverage of music, news, sports, talk, comedy and children's programming.
