TransCore has announced the availability of asset tracking technologies that utilize an infrared cargo sensor and a temperature sensor for use on its GlobalWave satellite communications products.

The cargo sensor detects cargo via infrared light pulses down the length of the trailer, approximately two feet above the trailer. Event triggers may be used to notify fleet managers when trailers are loaded, ready for pickup, unloaded, etc.

The temperature sensor monitors heat inside assets, such as a reefer trailer or the inside of a tanker. Alerts may be set up for fleet managers when high or low temperature thresholds are exceeded.

For infrared cargo sensor purchases in volume, prices could be under $100, Transcore said.

“The introduction of the additional GlobalWave sensors, and particularly the infrared cargo sensor, marks the beginning of a series of upcoming design innovations in satellite communications,” said John Worthington, Transcore president.
