Top Cat engineer tapped for EPA committee

Caterpillar Inc. has announced that John Campbell, gm- engineering for the Caterpillar Large Power Systems Div., has been appointed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to serve on its Clean Air Act Advisory Committee (CAAAC). The committee helps advise EPA on air-quality issues.

"It is an honor for Caterpillar to have John Campbell appointed to this committee," said Caterpillar Large Power Systems Div. vp Gary Stroup. "John's commitment to producing the highest quality products for our customers while also focusing on efforts to reduce emissions will serve Caterpillar, the committee and the industry very well."

Campbell, a 39-year veteran of Caterpillar, was a leader of the research and development effort that resulted in the invention of the company's ACERT technology for reducing diesel engine emissions.

The CAAAC is a senior-level policy committee appointed by EPA that advises the agency on issues related to implementing the Clean Air Act amendments of 1990. It includes approximately 60 senior managers and experts representing the industry, state and local government, environmental and public interest groups, academic institutions, unions, trade associations and utilities.
