DOT Inspector General Kenneth Mead testified before a House subcommittee that a review of the new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration identified at least 30 areas that require immediate rule changes.
In particular, he mentioned closing CDL loopholes. For example, Mead said that states should not be allowed to mask serious violations by reducing charges so they don't show up on a driver's record. He's also opposed to issuing hardship licenses that allow drivers to operate a truck after their license has been revoked due to a poor driving record.
