Truckload carrier Schneider National is eliminating jobs and redeploying employees from its headquarters in Green Bay, WI, as it looks to grow its international operations.
The company said some 170 positions will be eliminated with an additional 85 workers to be redeployed to other Schneider divisions. Tim Fliss, the carrier’s national executive vp of human resources, noted that roughly 120 of the eliminated positions are from its Green Bay headquarters. That would affect less than 1% of Schneider’s 230,000 workers, Schneider noted.
“We regularly review and adjust our staffing levels to most efficiently meet our strategic business objectives,” he said. “A recent review led to the redeployment of a number of associates, scaled back hiring in some departments, and certain role reductions. However, even after these changes, our total workforce will grow by the end of 2006 and beyond. This is about improved operational efficiencies.”
Fliss noted that these job changes are effective immediately.
In June, the company announced plans to divest its Specialized and Payment Services divisions. Within the last year it acquired two new subsidiaries, American Port Services and American Overseas Air Freight in support of its international strategy.
