Redford, MI-based Detroit Diesel Corp. (DDC) and United Auto Worker (UAW) Local 163 are partnering with Redford Township to help the community of Plaquemines Parish, LA, recover from damage inflicted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

To kick off the project, DDC sent a tractor-trailer full of donations from Redford residents and Detroit Diesel employees to Plaquemines Parish. Relief supplies included non-perishable food items and cleaning supplies, as well as clothing and household items. The company paid for the driver’s time, as well as for the fuel--the first effort in its long-term relief plan for the Louisiana town, said Chris Snodgrass, DDC’s director of operations.

“Detroit Diesel is committed to contributing to the communities where we live and work, and we plan to work with the UAW and Redford Township to help Plaquemines Parish over the long term, identifying ways we can help them during this challenging time,” he said.
