Con-Way Transportation Services, based in Ann Arbor, MI, announced that freight customers can now get up-to-the-minute status reports on their shipments via electronic mail through Con-Way’sInternet site.

Con-Way said customers now have the option to identify a single shipment or all their shipments to set up receipt of status notification. Reports will be sent automatically via e-mail for a list of status events that include: when the shipment is picked up, when it is delivered, announcement of arrival and departure as it travels its route to delivery, and notice of when delays are incurred, the carrier said. Con-Way added that users also have the ability to choose which type of event they want included in the notification system.

“We built the system to be flexible,” said Jacquelyn Barretta, vp-information services for Con-Way. “Our customers can use it to monitor every one of their shipments or use it as an exception management tool. The user can turn on the ‘delay’ button so they will be notified about only those shipments that could potentially not meet our published delivery standards. Hot shipments can be set up to have a notice sent on each status change as it moves to final delivery.”

Con-Way is a $2.1 billion network of less-than-truckload operations throughout Canada and the United States, which includes Con-Way Southern Express, Con-Way Western Express, Con-Way Central Express, and Con-Way Canada Express. The Con-Way companies are in turn a subsidiary $6 billion global trucking, air and ocean freight conglomerate CNF, which is based in Palo Alto, CA.
