Indicative of how quickly the infant electric vehicle (EV) market for trucks is advancing, Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. showcased new body styling for its plug-in MT-EV all-electric WIV (walk-in van) during National Odyssey Day at the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium's Odyssey Week. The new body, built by Morgan Olson, is made of lightweight, durable composites that are completely recyclable.
The van has a GVWR of 14,000 to 19,500 lbs. Made of durable steel, the straight-rail chassis frame reduces flex and bowing to minimize stress. There is a flat leaf spring front and rear suspension for a smoother ride over uneven road surfaces.
A one-piece bonded windshield improves visibility. The instrumentation panel adds additional features that constantly monitor the EV operating system. www.freightlinerchassis.com
