Trucks spec'd with the new Airtek air suspension steer axle can now be equipped with an onboard scale from Air-Weigh. The new AW5700 can be fitted with a variety of sensors to measure weights directly from any combination of air-suspension steer, drive and lift axles on both straight trucks and tractor-trailers.

The company expects to begin marketing similar onboard systems for use with mechanical axles by the fall. Currently all Air-Weigh scales, including its models for trailers and tractor-trailer combinations, work only with air-suspension systems.

Developed by Hendrickson, the Airtek air suspension steer axle is available in North America on Freightliner LLC trucks. The scale will also be offered for a number of different axles in Europe where air-ride steer axles have been available for several years. The company expects the primary market for the scale will be fleets that use Class 5-7 trucks to carry expedited freight.
