Mack Trucks has introduced three new products, including the Mack InfoMax Wireless system, PowerLease engine brake and T310 transmission.
Using Wi-Fi short-range wireless technology, the InfoMax Wireless is designed to allow fleet managers to extract performance information from trucks without physically connecting to the vehicles. The new system works within a fleet's terminal area via an SRW Module, which mounts under the dash and automatically transmits information from the DataMax onboard data logger to a Network Access Point (NAP) located within the terminal building. The NAP receives information such as trip summaries, or maintenance and fault codes from the truck and forwards it to the fleet's computer network. InfoMax software then sorts, analyzes, plots or reports the information in whatever format the fleet requires, said Tom Kelly, vp-marketing for Mack.
The new system is available on Mack Vision, Granite and CH models. SRW Modules can be ordered on all new vehicles or retrofitted into any existing vehicle equipped with V-MAC II or III electronics, according to the company. The NAP unit is produced, installed, warranted and serviced by Symbol Technologies.
Mack also debuted a new engine brake system dubbed the “PowerLease.” It will be available on Mack's new ASET (Application Specific Engine Technology) engines and is designed to provide improved braking performance throughout the engine operating range. According to Mack, the system delivers a 50% reduction in brake response time and yet saves 50 lb. over other engine brakes.
The ASET engines can also be matched with Mack's new T310 10-speed transmission. The 665-lb. T310 is designed primarily for highway applications according to Mack, but is suitable for many on/off highway applications as well. The overall ratio of the T310 is 19.04; overdrive top gear ratio is 0.73, while the first gear ratio is 13.81:1 for low speed gradability.
The new 10-speed is available in the Mack Vision, CH and Granite models.
