Ryder to Close D.C. Office

Despite yesterday’s announcement that it would close its Washington, D.C. government relations office, logistics and transportation management company Ryder System Inc. says it will still be an active member if government and local industry associations. "Ryder will maintain, or expand, where appropriate, its federal and state activities on issues that are critical to our business,” said Gregory T. Swienton, Ryder's president and chief executive officer.

The Washington office will be closed within the next 60 to 90 days, and the employees and jobs will be moved to the company’s headquarters in Miami. The company said the change will allow an increased level of direct involvement by its senior operating managers in addressing the strategic governmental and regulatory issues affecting its domestic and international operations.

Ryder’s association ties include the American Trucking Assns., the Truck Renting and Leasing Assn. and the National Association of Manufacturers.
