CN, CSX Form Intermodal Partnership

Rail giants Canadian National (CN) and CSX’s intermodal division today introduced a range of new intermodal services connecting major markets in Canada and the United States. The CN-CSX marketing agreement offers shippers highly competitive, five- day service for coast-to-coast intermodal traffic moving between Vancouver, B.C., and New York (Kearny, N.J.). Other key lanes include Toronto-Florida (four days) and Toronto-New York (two days). Shippers using CN in Canada now have intermodal connections to major centers in the U.S. Northeast via New York, Boston and Philadelphia. The companies say shippers will also benefit from more efficient intermodal links to other eastern and southern U.S. markets. The new service packages are designed to attract shippers of high-value consumer goods in Canada and the U.S., as well as international shippers moving products into and out of North America via the ports of Vancouver and Halifax, the railroads said. “Combining the reach of our railroads and the quality of our service creates a tremendous opportunity for shippers,” said Clarence Gooden, president and CEO of CSX’s intermodal operation. “This is truck-competitive service with truck-competitive reliability offered at rail intermodal rates.”
