Vancouver, BC-based Cummins Westport Inc. has announced that the first of 14 Peterbilt 378 trucks scheduled for delivery to Norcal Waste Systems Inc. has been delivered and is now in daily service. Four more trucks will be delivered to the San Francisco-based refuse hauler by mid-September.
Norcal operates a fleet of approximately 1,100 vehicles. Most of the new liquefied natural gas trucks will be used by Norcal to haul refuse from San Francisco to Altamont Pass Landfill, a 58-mile trip.
"The delivery of this vehicle and its use in service by Norcal in this particular duty cycle are very important milestones for us," said Guff Muench, Cummins Westport's CEO. "Refuse haulers represent a large and important market in California where regulators are taking steps to eliminate the use of diesel fuel for many of these fleet operators.”
