Pacbrake has introduced a new version of its engine exhaust brake — one controlled by a special microprocessor — for use on Class 6-8 trucks to help reduce noise. Called the MCXB, this new exhaust brake is currently only available in a 4-in. exhaust pipe version for Class 6-7 trucks and can be used on a range of Cummins, Caterpillar, and International-brand truck engines. A 5-in. exhaust pipe version for Class 8 tractors should be available later this year.

The microprocessor electronically adjusts and closes off more exhaust at lower rpms to provide better supplemental braking without the driver having to downshift, Pacbrake says. The driver also has the option to turn the microprocessor on or off via a switch in the truck cab. Pacbrake estimates the cost of the Class 8 version of its MCXB exhaust brake to be less than $1,500.
