At the recent Mid-America Trucking Show, four suppliers-ArvinMeritor, Bendix, Dana and Haldex-each introduced air-disc brakes for heavy-duty trucks.

ArvinMeritor said its new DX 225 air-disc brake offers significant performance and maintenance advantages. The brake fits within 22.5-in. wheels and is available on axles rated up to 24,000 lb. GAW. It will be released to truck and trailer OEMs by mid-year.

According to ArvinMeritor, the DX 225 offers smooth braking with improved handling and low lifecycle maintenance costs through permanently lubed components, sealed slide pins, more wearable lining volume, and radial lift-out lining pads. Go to www.arvinmeritor.com or circle 300 on reply card

Bendix said its new ADB 225 disc brake offers a streamlined design, a more efficient force multiplier, less than 10% hysterisis and works well in combination with drum brakes and ABS.

Slated to be on the market in this year's fourth quarter, the brake was specifically designed for North American applications and consequently weighs 30 lb. less per wheel end compared to European brakes. Go to www.bendix.com or circle 301 on reply card.

Dana said its new Dana Spicer Extended Service Disc ESD225 for 22.5- and 24.5-in. wheels comes equipped with proprietary linings and rotor designs for longer life and exceptional performance.

The brakes — available for steer, drive and trailer axles — have proven compatible when used in combination with North American drum brakes. Go to www.dana.com or circle 302 on reply card

Haldex said its new air disc brake is configured to fit 19.5- and 22.5-in. wheel applications. It will be available beginning in July.

The company said the brake is equipped with quadruple stainless steel caliper slide pins and Teflon slide pin bushings to eliminate problems with “sticking” calipers as well as uneven disc-brake lining wear.

Haldex noted that the new brake's compact design enables it to be easily integrated into nearly every heavy commercial vehicle design. Go to www.haldexbrakes.com or circle 303 on reply card.
