Miami-based truck leasing and maintenance giant Ryder System is partnering with California-based LoJack Corp. to market its vehicle security and tracking system to commercial truck fleets in an effort to combat truck theft.
Tony Tegnelia, president of Ryder’s fleet management division, said Ryder Safety Services will be the exclusive online provider of LoJack Systems to commercial fleets in the U.S. through its www.RyderSafetyServices.com website.
LoJack’s systems are based on radio frequency (RF) technology, using transponders hidden in the vehicle so a stolen truck or trailer can be tracked—whether it’s parked in a concrete garage or hidden under dense foliage. Richard Riley, president & COO of LoJack, said the company’s Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) installed in law enforcement vehicles, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, use the signal emitted by the transponder to help them track down and recover stolen vehicles and equipment.
