Additive boosts fuel economy

International Fuel Technology (IFT) has announced that its DiesoLIFT fuel additive has demonstrated its ability to increase fuel economy by 3% to 5.6% in long-haul applications, according to independent tests conducted under Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) protocols by the Southwest Research Institute and the Forest Engineering Research Institute of Canada, according to ITF.

DiesoLIFT lowers a fuel’s surface tension, which helps engines produce "a cleaner burn."

The company says DiesoLIFT is compatible with both low sulfur diesel and ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuels, as well as with 2007 truck models. Other benefits of the additive, according to IFT, include:

• Increases lubricity. It coats engine surfaces to restore some of the lubricity lost in ULSD compared with low sulfur diesel.
• Reduces maintenance costs. The life cycle of filters may be extended because the “cleaner burn” results in less soot. This includes diesel particulate filters, which will be equipped in ’07 or later models. It also cleans the engine as it burns and prevents water from condensing into fuel.
• Environmental benefit from reduced carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons and particulate matter emissions.
