Sweden-based Volvo Global Trucks, encompassing Mack Trucks, Renault V.I. and Volvo Trucks North America, said its global truck sales were off 16% between January and October this year – dropping to 127,661 units, compared to the 151,104 sold in the same period in 2000.

Volvo added that North American sales dropped 37% and European sales fell 2% compared to the same period last year.

"On the whole, Europe is seeing a slowdown, but the Southern and Eastern European markets are doing well," says Tryggve Sthen, Volvo’s president & CEO. "The situation in North America remains grave."

Mack’s truck deliveries dropped to 19,872 between January and October, down 34% from the same period in 2000. Heavy-duty truck orders totaled 19,123 and medium-duty orders slipped to 749 from 1,041last year. Volvo’s North American deliveries dropped 19% from last year to 55,419.
