Driver availability fell slightly in June, according to a monthly Driver Market Indicators Report published by transportation forecasting firm FTR Associates.
Throughout the U.S. the workforce is growing slightly, and the bulk of that growth is being taken by the service-producing sector. The lower driver labor index along with steady freight demand has created an industrywide driver shortage of about 140,000.
FTR Associates is forecasting an improvement in the driver shortage situation to about 60,000 by the end of the year.
