Virginia transportation officials have committed increased traffic enforcement presence and steeper fines along an 11-mile stretch of I-95 through Prince William County. The permanent measure marks the third “safety corridor” declared by the state, along with similar actions declared on I-81 in Roanoke County and I-95 in Richmond County.

Signs have been placed along the Prince William County stretch warning motorists of the tighter enforcement stating that fines for traffic infractions are $200 minimum and up to $500 for traffic infractions. However, the Virginia Dept. of Transportation noted that fines of up to $2,500 may be issued for criminal offences such as reckless driving and drunken driving.

Virginia state police told Fleet Owner that there are no citation statistics available since the initiative went into effect last week in Prince Williams County.
