The Illinois DOT has announced that a temporary entrance ramp off westbound I-94 from Torrence Avenue to the northbound Bishop Ford Expressway is open to traffic.

Motorists on Torrence can access this ramp by traveling west on 173rd Street/Bernice Road, then turning south on Bernice Road. Signs directing Torrence Avenue traffic to the ramp are posted. Traffic entering the expressway from Torrence will not have direct access to the Tri-State Tollway (westbound I-80/northbound I-294).

Weather permitting, direct access to westbound I-80/northbound I-294 from Torrence will be re-established in the spring. This work is part of the $430 million Kingery Expressway reconstruction project. Work began in 2003 and will continue through 2006. The completed project will include additional traffic lanes and reconfigured interchanges at Torrence Ave. and at the Bishop Ford Expressway/ Illinois Route 394 junction.
