LTL carrier Overnite Transportation Co. is adding new options to its online service connection, including the ability to create e-mail notices to help customers better manage their freight.

Overnite said its new shipment-notification system informs customers when a shipment status changes, saving time by eliminating the need for repeated visits to the web site. Registered visitors can select specific events for which they would like to be notified and enter e-mail addresses for as many as 20 parties, in addition to themselves, they would like the notification sent to, said Bill Madden, the carrier’s senior web development manager.

“This new application will allow customers to instantly send and receive e-mails that show when shipments have been picked up, delivered or when appointments have been attempted,” he said. “It gives them the flexibility to incorporate notifications into their workflow and reporting processes.”
