FedEx opens $15 million facility in Philadelphia

Fedex Corp. has officially opened a new $15 million, 110,000 sq. ft. distribution and sort center in South Philadelphia. An extensive site clean up was required before FedEx could build its new center, including the removal and disposal of more than 15,000 tons of contaminated soil, 10,000 gallons of contaminated water and tons of assorted debris. The property had been designated a "brownfields" site, which is the name given to abandoned industrial sites, which have environmental problems.
