Thermo King made a number of announcements at the Mid-America Trucking Show, including two new products and significant enhancements to its popular SB-30 Series of refrigeration units.

The SB-30 Series includes the SB-130, SB-230, and SB-330 units.

A fuel filtration system designed for ultra-low-sulfur fuels extends the life of the primary filter, the inlet screen, and the refrigeration engine, Thermo King said. It allows up to 3,000 run-hours between filter changes.

The pre-filter used in conjunction with the 5 Micron primary fuel filter prevents the inlet screen from plugging, the company said.

A new SR-3 controller has also been added to allow quicker data transfer using a flash drive. In addition, an optional ultrasonic fuel sensor provides more accurate fuel readings.

In June, the company will introduce an evaporation blower that is expected to reduce fuel costs by up to 7%, and an integrated wireless package that will be quicker to install. The package will allow customers to more closely monitor their refrigeration fleets.

For straight trucks, Thermo King introduced an electronic throttling valve (ETV) for use with its T-600, T-800, and T-1000 Series units. The ETV keeps boxes at the proper temperature longer, enabling quicker temperature pull-down time, and stretching the time between service intervals because the engine runs less frequently. According to Thermo King, testing showed a 30% reduction in fuel usage and 20% reduction in run-time.

For fleets looking for precise temperature control inside larger vans, Thermo King unveiled its V-520 RT for fresh products and V-520 RT Max for frozen products.

Thermo King said its RT series offers cooling capacities 50% greater than competitive units, with a low-profile condenser that measures just 7.5 in. above the roof to minimize the risk of damage.
