Working closely with hardware vendors, Maptuit Corp. has created its first generation of in-vehicle navigation software based on both Windows and WinCE platforms. FleetNav software for professional truck drivers supports next-generation in-cab devices, including Qualcomm’s OmniVision and DriverTech’s Truck-PC DT 4000.

Maptuit said it expects to move into a limited trial by the beginning of the fourth quarter of this year, well ahead of the announced delivery timetables of the new-generation devices. “We’re thrilled to see there will be a successor to the limited in-cab computing capability available through today’s mobile communications devices,” said Jeff Papows, CEO of Maptuit. “We expected this paradigm shift, invested heavily to be ahead of it, and will ensure our customers benefit as the next generation devices roll out in the second half of next year.”

The company said its next-generation in-truck environment includes real-time, turn-by-turn directions; textual, graphical and text-to-speech information presentation; high-quality truck specific routing and directions, including fuel optimization; rapid re-routing; truck specific points-of-interest; and current traffic and weather conditions.
