Officials from the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security and the National Cargo Security Council (NCSC) pledged to work together in the fight against cargo crime and terrorism at NCSC's annual conference.
In separate keynotes, Asa Hutchinson, under secretary for Border and Transportation Security in the Dept. of Homeland Security, and Admiral James Loy, director of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), emphasized that public-private partnerships like TSA and NCSC should serve as national models of cooperation for helping to improve homeland security.
"The key to homeland security is the partnership between the public and private sectors," said Loy. "Those partnerships are key to the transportation and cargo security locks too."
Hutchinson said that even though there has not been a major terrorist activity in the United States for the past 20 months, the nation "should not be lulled into complacency."
