FedEx Ground, a subsidiary of $20 billion Memphis-based FedEx Corp., plans to open 63 additional FedEx Home Delivery terminals throughout the U.S. to expand its network’s geographic reach to 80% of the U.S. population.

FedEx Ground said it will co-locate 56 of the new FedEx Home Delivery terminals with existing FedEx Ground facilities to optimize its network.

“Our volumes have steadily grown and we expect them to continue to grow significantly over the next year as a result of the service's ability to serve a larger segment of the market,” said T. Michael Glenn, president & CEO for FedEx Services.

Launched in March 2000 by FedEx Ground, FedEx Home Delivery is dedicated exclusively to residential delivery. Services include standard evening and Saturday delivery along with options such as day-specific and guaranteed appointment deliveries.

In June 2000, FedEx Ground announced an accelerated expansion plan to achieve full U.S. coverage by September 2002. In the first phase of the expansion last February, FedEx Ground opened 85 FedEx Home Delivery terminals to increase its reach to 70% of the population. By next February, the company wants to serve 90% of the U.S. population.

After this latest expansion, FedEx Ground said it will have a network of 584 distribution hubs and local pickup-and-delivery terminals throughout the U.S. and Canada. The company reported annual revenue of $2.2 billion in fiscal year 2001.
