At the recent World of Concrete show in Las Vegas, Cummins Inc. unveiled its new 2007 vocational ISL engine package, complete with its own in-house diesel particulate filter (DPF) to control exhaust pollution.
The 2007 ISL provides peak horsepower of 365 hp and peak torque of 1250 lb.-ft., said Chuck Goode, Cummins’ director-specialty markets, with maintenance intervals unchanged. He noted that this package will offer a new option that allows mixer operators to monitor the engine oil level from inside the cab. This will eliminate the need for daily manual inspection.
The 2007 ISL also features an enhanced Cummins High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) fuel system, which delivers higher injection pressures for lower emissions and its patented Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VG T) constantly adjusts airflow to reduce turbo lag, improve transient response and increase vehicle performance, Goode explained.
The ISL will incorporate cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology along with an integrated Cummins Particulate Filter to meet the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and CARB (California Air Resources Board) emissions standards for 2007.
Jeff Weikert, executive director-midrange engineering for Cummins said the company’s DPF is designed to last the life of the engine and is linked to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to actively control exhaust gas temperatures so the catalytic reaction to remove accumulated soot can take place. A typical vocational truck should need to service the filter only once every 6,000 hours, he said.
The 2007 ISL will also feature a crankcase ventilation management system that should require the average vocational truck to replace that system’s Enviroguard coalescing filter at every third oil change, Weikert noted.
