Service locates stolen vehicles
CSI Wireless and Datacom Wireless Corp., both based in Canada, have unveiled a new stolen vehicle recovery system called Mobilus. The system, which uses CSI's Asset-Link 100 transmitter, will be launched in the first quarter of 2003.

Mobilus is designed to detect theft and recover stolen cars and trucks via wireless telematic service, relaying messages tow owners either over the phone or through the Internet, said CSI.

The company's Asset-Link 100, introduced in early 2002, is part of a family of fleet-tracking devices that uses Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and cellular communication links to locate equipment even underground or in a closed area such as a building, garage, tunnel or container, said CSI.

If a vehicle is stolen, an alert signal is automatically transmitted to a Datacom security facility and relayed to a 911 dispatcher, allowing police to take the steps to recover the vehicle. The system can also be used to cut the fuel supply to the vehicle's engine, the companies said.
