The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS), in cooperation with the U.S. DOT, plans to release a report that will highlight the nation's transportation needs for the next 10 years.

The report, National Intelligent Transportation Systems Program Plan: A 10 Year Vision, will be unveiled during the annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board on January 14.

The plan will outline an agenda of major public and private initiatives that encourages the adoption of technologies that have a clear promise of enhancing safety and security, reducing congestion and delay, saving time and money and improving the environment.

"Intelligent transportation systems mean powerful benefits in managing congestion, reducing crashes, and improving the efficiency of the trucking and transit industries," said transportation secretary Norman Mineta. "Such systems have already demonstrated their value in improving mobility and safety, not only in North America but in Europe and Asia as well."
