Schneider to offer drivers new away-from-home

Tim Partin has acquired Thermo King of Atlanta, GA; Doraville, GA; and Greenville, SC from long-time Thermo King dealer principal Bobby Williamson

Schneider National Inc. has announced it will implement a per diem pay package option to eligible company drivers. Under the program, Schneider will reimburse a portion of the driver mileage rate tax-free for each night spent away from home.

This “per-day allowance” for daily expenses will provide up to $52 tax-free for each night drivers spend away from home on the job.

“For drivers who are away from their families for extended periods of time, the per diem program can provide more take-home pay and is one more way that Schneider is offering choice and flexibility to its drivers,” said Wayne Lubner, vp- driver and contractor relations.

After January, drivers may either opt to take this option or accept the existing mileage pay—which offers a higher per-mile rate but is taxable.
