Stonier Transportation Group, a freight forwarding and transportation management company based in Jacksonville, FL, said its revenues grew 5% in 2001, climbing to $43 million.

"Though 2001 was generally a down year for the transportation industry, we still grew our results year-over-year," said Allen J. Steele, Stonier's chairman & CEO. He added that the company now expects year-over-year growth of 20% in 2002 not only through gaining new accounts, but also by expanding its share of business with existing customers and by diversifying Stonier's range of services.

"Intermodal transportation, for example, is a small part of our business today," said Thomas W. Piatak, Stonier's president. "But through strategic alliances with key rail service providers, we expect to see a significant increase in revenues through that mode as customers experience the value and cost savings in truck/rail/truck versus just truckload transportation."

The company has also hired Russell W. Dixon, a long-time transportation industry veteran, as its new marketing director. Dixon, who worked for 10 years at GATX Logistics, will be responsible for all aspects of the marketing function, from brand development and promotional planning to customer development and lead generation.
