Cummins Inc. has introduced the Uptime Guarantee program for its heavy-duty on-highway truck engines subject to the tough new October 1 emissions requirements. The program provides assurance to the trucking industry that the new engines will meet and exceed customer performance and reliability needs.

"We are announcing this program to the industry to eliminate any concern customers may have in purchasing our new products," said executive director of marketing Tom Kieffer.

Under the guarantee, if any part on a customer's 2002 ISX or ISM engine fails and can't be repaired within a 24-hour period, Cummins not only will pay for the repairs, but will also provide a rental vehicle at no cost.

The guarantee applies to Cummins ISX and ISM engines purchased between October 1 and March 31, 2003, with coverage from the date of purchase through December 31, 2003.

"We are ready for October 2002," said Christine Vujovich, vp-environmental policy and product strategy. "Cummins has never wavered from its commitment to our customers to have the most reliable product available to meet the EPA deadline."

Cummins also announced three new extended warranty options for its heavy-duty engines. The enginemaker said all the new components are fully covered in Cummins base warranty .
