Whitman resigns as EPA head
Christine Todd Whitman today submitted her resignation as administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, effective June 27.
Whitman said in her letter of resignation to President George W. Bush that she was leaving to spend time with family.
The Associated Press said President Bush will be under pressure to replace Whitman with a nominee who will be acceptable to his GOP supporters without alienating swing voters who tend to be wary of the Republican stance on the environment.
