New fuel cell bus design

Natural Resources Canada is overseeing the bus project and has brought Hydrogenics in to develop a new twist to fuel cell vehicle propulsion design.

Hydrogenics' HyPM fuel cell power module provides what it calls 'vehicle-to-grid' technology, enabling a vehicle's fuel cell system to provide off-board power while the vehicle is sitting idle.

"We believe the potential of using fuel cell vehicles as a source of clean power creates a tremendous value proposition for utility markets in the future," said president & CEO Pierre Rivard. "The first opportunities may be in those parts of the world, with emerging economies, that do not have an existing infrastructure for the distribution of electricity."
