Starting in May, Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems will offer electronic stability control (ESC) for trucks and tractors using its E-version anti-lock braking system (ABS). The new safety system adds yaw control to the company's roll stability control system (RSC), which is currently installed on over 10,000 commercial vehicles, according to the company.
ESC is designed to improve vehicle handling when sensors identify an impending loss of control due to rapid lane changes or cornering on slippery surfaces. Under those conditions, the system applies brakes at individual wheel ends to help drivers continue moving in their intended direction. It will also incorporate the roll stability and automatic traction control functions of the RSC system.
Meritor WABCO is a joint venture of ArvinMeritor and the WABCO Automotive Products Group of American Standards Companies Inc.
