At the National Private Truck Council’s (NPTC) Annual Education Management Conference in Atlanta earlier this month, member-company private fleets were recognized for their safe operations.

The NPTC-Bridgestone/Firestone Fleet of the Year Award is presented to companies whose fleets experience the lowest ratio of accidents per million miles for the past year. The awards are divided by fleet size and operational category.

Barnes & Noble won first place in the local operation category. Target Stores won in the regional operation category for small fleets, and Milliken & Co. for large fleets. In the mixed operations category Pendleton Woolen Mills won for small fleets, and Dynegy Midstream Services, L.P. for large fleets.

The following fleets were recognized for not being involved in an accident last year: ADM Trucking, BP, Dynergy Midstream Services, Hittman Transport Services, Moen, Pendleton, and Target Stores.

In other NPTC news, the council recognized people who have made significant contributions to the organization or their profession.

The Private Fleet Executive of the Year award went to Ralph Benson, president of DE-based Sentinel Transportation. The Fleet Safety Professional of the Year award went to Kevin Conners, director of safety for NE-based ConAgra Foods, Inc.
