Negotiations between management and Teamster negotiators on a new National Master Freight Agreement (NMFA) are moving forward with formal talks scheduled to resume on February 5, according to the union.

"Both sides have had an opportunity to fully review and evaluate their respective wage and benefit proposals," said Motor Freight Carriers Assn. president & CEO Tim Lynch. "We look forward to returning to the bargaining table and resolving these final remaining issues."

The current NMFA expires March 31. Settlement of the last NMFA agreement was reached well in advance of the expiration, and with a 70% ratification vote, Lynch said.

"By the time we return to talks, the Teamsters membership will have spoken in support of their negotiating committee," Teamsters general president Jim Hoffa said. "I expect the employers to be prepared to address the members' concerns when we resume talks."

The NMFA covers more than 65,000 Teamster members across the United States.
