Toledo, Ohio-based Dana Corp. says it has reorganized its heavy-truck divisions to develop parts and systems more efficiently and to introduce them more quickly.

“We are essentially reinventing ways to eliminate waste, drive technologies and share services,” Commercial Vehicle Systems division president Rick Clayton said.

Dana renamed its former Heavy-Trucks Strategic Business division as the Commercial Vehicle Systems division. Its Heavy-Axle and Brake and Trailer Products divisions will be called the Commercial Vehicle Axle division and the Ride-and-Control Systems Division, the company said. The Ride-and-Control division will develop trailer axles, steering axles, brake systems and tire-management systems, as well as truck and trailer systems.

Dana said its heavy-truck output fell 25 % in 2000 because higher expenses and fuel costs cut demand while dealers’ inventories of new and used vehicles rose.

Company spokesman Jeff Cole said there are no expected job cuts as a result of the restructure.
