Eaton’s has launched it new MD (Mobile Diagnostic) diagnostic service tool line with the release of the Eaton MD-200 hand-held device and a PC adapter.

The MD-200 tool can simultaneously monitor a number of powertrain components, including engines, for all makes and models of trucks with SAE J1587 and J1939 data links.

Because the software resides within the tool, there are no cartridges to install or swap. Any later software upgrades will be handled via the Internet, as will the purchasing of the tool itself, said Eaton.

The MD-200 incorporates four key functions – scanner, comm box, link tester and data box – into one device.

The separate Eaton Vehicle Link Adapter is a microprocessor-based interface for PC-to-vehicle communications. It is designed to be a primary link between commercial vehicles and Windows-based service applications. It provides connectivity through a PC’s serial port and translates J1587, J1708, and mJ1939 standards.

The MD tools are available for direct sale over the Internet at the Roadranger store at Roadranger.com.
