Casey L. Gunnell has been named CFO of PNV Inc. Gunnell is a founder and co-owner of Bob and Jack's Trucking Co., a new vehicle hauling business started in 1998. PNV is a provider of onboard bundled telecommunications, Internet access, and cable television services to the trucking industry.

FedEx Supply Chain Services Inc., a third-party provider of integrated supply chain solutions, has created FedEx eLogistics, a division that will focus on providing end-to-end electronic commerce logistics solutions for businesses. Doug Witt has been named vp- general manager of the division.

The National Transportation Exchange (NTE) has installed a new version of its online trading system that offers shipper members the ability to monitor freight movement and destination time lines directly through the web. Version 2.0 of NTE Exchange (NTEx) also supports full trading functions via a standard web browser and gives carrier members looking for shipments the ability to define and change fixed routes, routine capacities, and price specifications at any time.

Transit Group (www.transitgroup.com) says its new web-based service will link agents, trucking companies, and shippers to create a virtual marketplace for trucking logistics. Company president and CEO Philip A. Belyew says the online operation will serve small trucking companies and agents with fleets under 10 trucks, which he says make up about 60% of the industry. Headquartered in Atlanta, Transit Group is a holding company that concentrates in consolidating short-, medium- and longhaul trucking companies, particularly truckload carriers.

TrucktireXchange.com is an online marketplace for locating, purchasing, and selling new and retread truck tires. Members, which include fleets as well as dealers and distributors, can use the web site to search available inventories, post tire needs, or manage purchases. Membership is free; sellers pay a 3% fee per transaction.

PC*MILER 14 adds Internet interfaces for its database of 657,000 North American road miles. The updated package also includes all 13-ft. 6-in. height restrictions in the U.S. highway network and all 5-digit U.S. ZIP codes for the year 2000. Add-on data modules for the new version include additional Canadian Postal Codes and Standard Point Location Codes.

Landstarmail.com is a new e-mail service for Landstar System agents and leased owner-operators. The new service is a full-featured system that allows registered users to send and receive e-mail and attachments, organize incoming mail automatically, and save contact information in a personal address book.

Below-prime-rate financing for dispatch management software, services, prepaid maintenance, computer hardware, and other high-tech equipment is now available from TMW Systems Inc. Payment options include operating and capital leases, deferred billing, interest-only billing, and graduated lease payments. PNV Inc. is now the premier content provider for the trucking professionals' area of AOL's WorkPlace Channel. AOL members using the keyword PNV will have direct access to PNV's information and services for drivers, longhaul fleets, and trucking industry suppliers. The communications company says it will also become the premier sponsor for the freight matching and load posting section of Netscape's Netcenter.

FQXpress allows shippers to use a Palm VII wireless handheld device to obtain freight rates, as well as schedule and confirm shipments over freightquote.com, an online trading network for freight services. Once a shipper chooses a carrier, freightquote.com automatically handles arrangements for pickup, paperwork, and billing.
