Subaru taps BAX Global for logistics

Irvine, CA-based BAX said the contract calls for it to handle centralized customs brokerage and import freight from Subaru's Japanese facilities into its regional distribution centers via five U.S. gateways. BAX will use its domestic ground and overnight transportation systems to manage the freight. Last year, Subaru imported over 750 tons of automobile parts via air, BAX said.

In addition, BAX said it is working with Subaru and its contracted software vendor to further automate the customs entry process. Subaru of America is a subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan. Headquartered near Philadelphia, the operation markets and distributes Subaru vehicles, parts and accessories through a network of nearly 600 U.S. dealers.
