Telematics provider AirIQ and transportation electronics specialist Delphi Corp. have joined forces to co-develop what they call a "vehicle interface module" to provide standard connectivity to enhance vehicle tracking and communication capabilities.

AirIQ said that most vehicles today are equipped with electronics that are able to capture relevant information about the vehicle's activities and performance, which can then be transmitted back to a central location.

With the standard interface that AirIQ and Delphi plan to develop, AirIQ's telematics devices will provide vehicle information such as trouble codes and on-board vehicle system monitoring to customers. The interface will be developed to support specifications for both passenger vehicles and commercial trucks, said Delphi.

Delphi Delco Electronics Systems and Delphi Integrated Service Solutions are working together to provide AirIQ with specific firmware and software allowing vehicle data parameters to be transmitted wirelessly to a centralized facility.

Once the data arrives at AirIQ's network operations center, its system would then use Delphi Integrated Service Solutions' technology to analyze the data and make vehicle service recommendations.
