The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration yesterday announced the availability of $1.4 million for a project to demonstrate a thermal imaging inspection system that identifies tire faults and failures in real-time. The money was earmarked in the SAFTEA-LU legislation for fiscal year 2006.

The agency is accepting applications for grant funding until Aug. 25.
