The Peterbilt Motors Co. of Denton, TX, is planning to offer its 207 dealers in the United States and Canada a series of training programs via the Internet.

"The trucking industry evolves rapidly, and never in its history has it been more important to anticipate customer needs and provide solutions than today," said Nick Panza, Peterbilt’s gm. “A truck manufacturer and its dealer network must be better informed and better prepared to effectively help customers in the areas of vehicle spec'ing, management and maintenance.”

Panza said Peterbilt dealers can access a variety of new training programs through a secure Internet site that is available 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. It will allow dealer personnel to take the courses whenever it is convenient for them, at work or at home. The training modules feature slide shows with streaming audio and a system that tracks users' progress and completion of courses, said Panza.

The selection of programs is designed to provide essential training for representatives in every area of a dealership's business, he added. For instance, sales staff can review the latest truck features to optimize selection and spec'ing of their customers' vehicles, and service technicians can gain valuable diagnostic information to help maximize customers' truck performance and life.

The training Peterbilt will initially offer over the Internet includes an overview of its new Flex Air tandem air suspension, features and benefits of Peterbilt’s medium duty product line, a tutorial on Peterbilt's new Prospector truck spec'ing software, and tips on servicing truck electrical systems.
