IdleAire Technologies Corp. has awarded a $65-million contract to Eaton Corp. to provide Eaton’s Power Truss system as a key component of the IdleAire ATE (Advanced Travel Center Electrification) systems that are planned for deployment at 210 new truckstop and fleet terminal locations nationwide over the next 12 months.
According to IdleAire, its ATE system provides substitute power so truck drivers can turn off their rigs’ diesel engines during required rest stops to eliminate 100% of idling emissions. The system delivers filtered in-cab heating and air conditioning as well as power for in-truck communications, entertainment (including satellite TV and Internet access) and customized remote training.
Eaton co-developed the Power Truss system with IdleAire. It enables distributing electrical power to individual IdleAire-equipped parking spaces at truckstops and terminals.
IdleAire noted that it has thus far obtained agreements for driver use of its ATE system from more than 1,500 fleets in the U.S. and Canada.
